Patrick Brethour examines our ageing population and how the government is choosing to spend money on it. I do agree with the statement that new additions to the OAS would have been better served to have been distributed through the GIS system. We don’t all need the extra money.

Janet E Silver provides a summary of all of the promises to seniors in the latest federal budget. This includes the $500 one time OAS payment, the general increase in OAS, and funding for long-term care. Mostly good news for those 75 and older, but for all retirees, there will be additional funding to help support folks who choose to age in their own homes… Which has become our working plan during the pandemic.

An oldie but a goodie. Wayne Rothe has a look at the age old question, how much do you need to save to retire? He looks at this question through the lens of Diane McCurd ‘s book, “How Much is Enough?: Balancing Today’s Needs with Tomorrow’s Retirement Goals”. Love this statement from the article, “No one really needs to be the richest guy in the graveyard, but everyone wants to know that they’ll have enough for a comfortable, worry-free retirement.”
