Today, two posts about how to calculate how much your pension is worth. Many of you may already be collecting pensions, so you know how much you are receiving. These two different methodologies should give you a rough idea what the pension is worth in total. Who knows if either methodology is totally accurate, but they are fun to play with.

Jason Heath looks at a housing option some folks may be considering before retirement. We did buy a townhouse prior to moving In, and it worked out well for us. That said, he raises some legitimate concerns that should be considered before making such a purchase. I learned something new and important from this article. He reported that “If you move into a property you previously rented out, you can defer the capital gains tax payable until you sell it in the future by filing an election with your tax return.” Good to know if you’re afraid of being hit with an enormous tax hit immediately after moving into a property that you have been holding for retirement and renting out in the interim.

The reader who suggested the “Somebody Feed Phil” documentary series also suggested that I have a look at the episode about Portugal. It is definitely worth checking out. Remembering how much the Love-goddess and I enjoyed hanging out and eating in both Lisbon and Puerto reminded me about the blog that this couple operate about their own travels. They now live in Portugal, and in this section of their blog have plenty to say about it.
