Rob Carrick looks at tax considerations for when retired individuals die. Anyone who has assets left when they pass, excluding their home of course, will face a very large tax hit. As the advisor he consulted said, “Not to sound flippant, but I say to people that if we can create a great tax explosion in your estate at the time you pass on, we’ve done a great job.”

Alaska lashes out after Canada extends cruise ban until 2022 – National Post, February 10, 2021
https://nationalpost.com/news/world/alaska-lashes-out-after-canada-extends-cruise-ban-until-2022Shari Kulha writes about Canada’s decision to extend the cruise ship travel ban until 2022 and it’s impact on tourism in Alaska. Bad news for cruise lovers. Honestly, I am not keen on cruising, which I have written about previously on my website. However, the one cruise I probably would go on would be the Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver.

Marcus Gee write about how much walking everyone has been doing during the pandemic, and how city officials have been facilitating it in their towns. A great form of exercise for we retired folks. I am looking forward to getting back out there on the pathways after I recover from my latest surgery on my feet. As I’ve been telling anyone who will listen, for me, going for a walk these days means doing two laps around the coffee table. 🙂

This is one place that is on my list of “must get to locations”. There is a ferry that runs from Denmark to the Faroe Islands, and then on to Iceland… Also on the list.
