Break out the Mojitos! We are well past the winter solstice which means that we are rushing towards summer… Winter is almost over… Woo hoo!
Seriously! Over the years I developed a strategy for psychologically dealing with these, the long, dark, cold days and nights of winter. I am pretty sure that I thought this up while standing outside bundled up in my Arctic gear, freezing my Cojones off on yard duty while supervising the kiddies at play during recess.
To start, as January began to unfold, I would think ahead two weeks to the middle of the month. I knew that when we got to that point, it was exactly 6 weeks until March 1. March, of course, is the month in which spring officially arrives, and winter would begin its full retreat. And, during those six weeks the sun would stay up longer and longer each and every day. Things will be steadily improving even if it isn’t blatantly obvious to us.
Adding to that, in spite of some delays, we are getting closer and closer to getting the Covid vaccine. AND, we have had a very benign, almost pleasant winter to this point… Where we live anyway. Things are looking pretty upbeat!
So, it’s February 2nd as I write this. You know what that means! There is now only three weeks and six more days until March 1, and, that signifies the beginning of the end of winter… and some of the worst aspects of lockdown!!!!!
Looking out at our stacked-up patio furniture this morning I am reminded that I should contact my buddy, The-Man-Who-Must-Not-Appear-On-Facebook, and arrange for a day where he can come over and help me set it all up.
Embrace and enjoy the next three plus weeks, they will be fleeting. I think I’d better go down to the basement and clean the clubs today, given that golf season is almost upon us.
We. Can. Beat. Winter. Piece. Of. Cake.
