A hot housing market offers a golden ticket to downsizing boomers – Globe and Mail, February 11, 2021

Rob Carrick writes about how the pandemic has created a demand for three and four bedroom houses, most currently owned by Boomers, and their steep price increases. Along with that, there has also been a noticeable decline in the price of condos in major Canadian city’s downtown areas. Perhaps the perfect situation for downsizing. And, you got a love a piece that cites Petula Clark’s song Downtown. 🙂
Gordon Pape: How to build a successful RRSP – Globe and Mail, February 9, 2021
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/investing/markets/inside-the-market/article-gordon-pape-how-do-build-a-successful-rrsp/
Gordon Pape offers up yet another take on RRSPs. The article is mostly about how young people can build wealth if they start early enough. But, he also reminds older readers about how they “may want to share these tips with their children or grandchildren.” We do have a bit of a responsibility to pass along what we have learned to those coming behind us.
These are the eight sources of retirement income you need to know about – Financial Post, February 4, 2019
https://financialpost.com/personal-finance/retirement/rrsp/these-are-the-eight-sources-of-retirement-income-you-need-to-know-about
I have been giving some thought to writing an article for my Yikes I’m Retired blog about income streams in retirement. This morning I thought, I have some ideas, but I’d better just do a general search of Ye Olde Inter-web to see what might pop up. This is one of the suggestions that popped up. A piece by Ted Rechtshaffen should get those of you who are not retired yet thinking about what your own potential income streams might be in retirement. To my mind there are more than the eight he suggests.

From a new travel blog I have just come across, “Eat Sleep Breathe Travel”. Hannah Logan, a young Canadian woman, primarily rates for young females, but much of what she has to say about travel in Vietnam applies across generations. And, she does identify all the great places in Vietnam to visit. Follow the “2 weeks in Vietnam itinerary ” link in her article for additional information. Everyone I know who has been there loves it, myself included.
Volvo European Delivery – Volvo Canada, October 16, 2018
https://www.volvoofoakville.com/en/news/view/european-delivery/51680
Here is some little know information that I shared on my personal FB page last week. The ability to purchase a European car in Canada… or the US and have use of it in Europe. This may be of interest to retirees who are preparing to go to Europe when we can travel again, and are also in need of a new car.
Volvo, and possibly other European manufacturers, offer European delivery of a new car for Canadians and Americans. All at no extra charge. Not all dealerships offer it, so you would have to buy your car from a dealership that is able to offer the plan, e.g. Oakville Volvo.
Here is the offer as stated on OV’s website as to what is included:
“Two round-trip tickets to Scandinavia
First-class hotel (1 night) in Gothenburg, Sweden
Home shipment services to your Canadian retailer”
So, it gets you to and from Europe for free, the use of your car while you’re in Europe (part of the package includes two weeks insurance, but you can extend that for as long as you want), and then they ship it to Canada for you. Again, all at no added charge to the purchaser.
